Journal 01/13/2020 - Allergies Schmallergies!

At the beginning of November, I wrote a post about a hysterical hives reaction I've started having.

At the beginning of January, I had two separate allergist appointments and I was debating which appointment I should keep: the one where the one where I had to go a full week without any antihistamines, or the one where I had to go only 3 days without any antihistamines or ibuprofen.

I overreacted with one of the receptionists when she said how long I would have to go and she got snippy with me. Something I didn't particularly appreciate since I was sure my face would swell up again if I didn't take my antihistamines.

So, I did an "experiment" towards the end of December, and it turns out that I can't go even one full day without them. The itching from the resulting hives is too much for me to handle - and I am not a wimp. After that, it took 3 more days for me to build up enough of the antihistamines for my body to be somewhat alright again. *sigh*

As a result, I cancelled both appointments.

If I'm not allergic to my new dog (I'm pretty sure I am), then I am definitely allergic to my "new" job.

At the very beginning of the flareups, a dermatologist told me that it can take 4-6 weeks for a new allergen to fully manifest itself - the swollen eyes and unmanageable hives started 6 weeks after I started my job and 4 weeks since I got my dog. Hmmm...

Anyway, the symptoms don't give me any hints:

  • Some days while I sit at my desk at work, my entire scalp breaks out in hives and swells up.

  • Other days, nothing.

  • Some days when I spend quality time with my dog I have no new breakouts.

  • Other days, my entire body swells up and itches.

It could also be stress because my new job is turning out to be exactly why I quit my last job. It's eerie how similar the situations are (I will share more of that a different day).

Last week I found some of my CBD gummies laying around and decided to start taking them again. I mean, what the heck? It sure couldn't hurt anything!

As luck would have it, the very next day I was mostly hive-free!! Only two little ones in the middle of my back!

And, I have been that way for 6 days now! As long as I remember to take one gummy every day, my hives have become minimal and, some days, even non-existent!!

Granted, hives have only been a temporary problem for me; I know there are people out there who've been suffering their whole lives with this uncomfortable allergic reaction!

What if these gummies, or another form of CBD could help them (or you) too?!?
